For the very first time, the exuberant spirit of gospel combines with synagogue hymns and prayers, in a new show – Jewish culture´s rich offerings of flavors, ethnicities and traditions. Adon Haselichot is a combination of gospel and jazz music with Jewish traditional Piyyutim and prayers, woven together into a unique, original blend of gospel music and local culture. Gospel music, exhilarating and optimistic, created by African-Americans, is rooted in African music, with lyrics drawn from the Bible.
Songs include Piyyutim and prayers such as Adon Haselichot, Eeroch Mehalel Nivi, Adon Olam, Shir Lama´alot, ´Haperakh Begani´, Yedid Nefesh´, to name a few – in fresh, stirring arrangements. Iris and Ofer Portugaly share the stage with 17 musicians in an extraordinary ensemble: A 10 singer choir, an oud, a guitar, a baroque recorder, a cello, ethnic percussion instruments, a piano, a double bass and drums.Among the songs in the performance – "Adon Haselichot", "E'eroch Mahalel Nivi", "Adon Olam", "Shir Lama'alot", "Yedid Nefesh", and others, all newly orchestrated.
